Blizzard Moves Into First Place

After a dominating 52-35 over divisional foe Quad City Steamwheelers, the Green Bay Blizzard have moved into a tie for first place in the Midwest Division of the American Conference (3-2 overall, 1-0 division). The two other teams tied with the Blizzard are the Louisville Fire (3-2 overall, 2-1 division) and the expansion Lexington Horsemen (3-2 overall, 1-2 division). The Blizzard and Fire will meet for the first time this season on June 14th in Louisville.

After a strong outing from QB Ryan Porter and an even better performance by a trio of Blizzard wide receivers, some of which were playing in their first game of the season, the Blizzard dominated the Steamwheelers from start to finish on Friday night at U.S. Cellular Field at the Resch Center. The Louisville Fire and Lexington Horsemen also met on Friday night with the Fire showing the Horsemen what football in the af2 is all about dismantling the team 61-34 in Louisville, KY.

Last season when the Blizzard and Fire met in Louisville, the Fire pulled away victoriously 39-33 in OT, but the Blizzard earned the last laugh beating the Fire in Green Bay 74-48 for the opportunity to play for the division title the next week. Before the Blizzard travels to Louisville the Lexington Horsemen will travel north to Green Bay, on May 16th for their first ever meeting.

This Friday the Blizzard will host another divisional foe, the Iowa Barnstormers who returned to the af2 after a seven year hiatus. Although new to the division this year, the Barnstormers have a storied franchise rich in arena football glory. The Barnstormers were produced NFL great Kurt Warner before the team moved to New York and took the nickname Dragons. The current Barnstormers are 2-2 overall and 1-2 in the division but their deep roster and great coaching staff will make this Friday's game a must see for arena football fans in Green Bay. Watch out...this one plans to be a doozie!!!
