A ten-year coaching veteran in the Arena Football League, Winter comes to Boise after seven years as Assistant Head Coach/Director of Player Personnel/Offensive Coordinator of the Los Angeles Avengers. He has also coached with the Chicago Rush (Director of Player Personnel/Special Teams Coordinator) and the now-defunct New England Seawolves (Assistant Director of Player Personnel).
Winter (40) is a West Virginia native, and played quarterback at Fairmont State College in Fairmont, WV, where he graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelors Degree in Management and Marketing. He earned a Masters of Arts in Education from West Virginia University, and has coached at his alma mater, Montgomery College (Rockville, MD) and Alleghany High School in Covington, Virginia.
"Coach Winter has the extensive Arena Football background that we were looking for," said Eric Trapp, President of the Boise Burn. "He's well organized, has great contacts throughout the AFL, af2 and at the collegiate level. He should be able to recruit and lead an exciting team on the field at Qwest Arena next season and beyond."
"Every coach has a dream of one day being a Head Coach and I feel very fortunate that such a class organization has made the decision to have me bring this team and city a championship," said Winter.
A member of the American Football Coaches Association, Winter has also worked at Pro Football Hall of Fame wide receiver Art Monk's summer camp, and at coaches clinics at West Virginia University and quarterback camps at Ohio University.
Winter and his wife Christina, a first grade school teacher, reside in Redondo Beach, Calif.
The Boise Burn will begin its third season of play at Qwest Arena in 2009. A schedule and more information about the upcoming season will be coming soon. Season tickets, with a variety of pricing options, are currently being offered by calling (208) 383-0080.
