Four Esks named to West Division All-Star team

(Edmonton) The Edmonton Eskimo Football Club is pleased to announce that four players have been named to the 2008 CFL West Division All-Star team. DB Jason Goss, DT Dario Romero, WR Kamau Peterson and OG Patrick Kabongo all received the honour for the first time in their careers after being selected by fans through the Future Shop All Star Balloting Program, the Football Reporters of Canada (FRC) and eight CFL head coaches.

Jason Goss - Defensive Back

First West Division All-Star selection Earned CFL Defensive Player of the Week when he broke the Eskimo record for yards on interception returns on Sept. 13 vs. Hamilton. He also became second in CFL history for most interception return yards in a game. Goss had 144 yards on three interceptions and two touchdowns and tied Eskimo records for interception touchdowns in a game (2) and interceptions in a game (3) Goss led the Esks in both fumble recoveries (three) and interceptions (five) this season. Over 18 games (18 starts) he had personal best 53 defensive tackles, six knockdowns, five interceptions for 182 yards and two touchdowns, three fumble returns for 55 yards, one quarterback sack and two tackles for a loss. He also has a punt return for five yards. He is the 2008 Eskimo nominee for the CFL's Outstanding Defensive Player Award for the second year in a row.

Dario Romero - Defensive Tackle

First West Division All-Star selection Enjoying his best CFL season in his return to Edmonton, Romero had 30 defensive tackles, one fumble recovery, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, four tackles for losses and six quarterback sacks, including two in Hamilton on July 25 and two against Sask on Aug 21. He has played in 16 games (15 starts) this season. Romero earned CFL Defensive Player of the Week honours for his performance on Aug. 21 when he posted three tackles and two sacks as the Eskimo defence limited the 'Riders to just 279 yards net offence.

Kamau Peterson - Wide Receiver

First West Division All-Star selection Peterson led all Eskimo receivers with 101 receptions for 1,317 yards and four touchdowns in 18 games (18 starts). This is his second +1000 yards receiving season in a row and he passed the 100 catches in a season mark - only the fourth Eskimo to do so - in the final game of the season. He earned CFL Canadian of the Week when he led all Eskimo receivers with a season high 8 catches for 113 yards and one touchdown in the Labour Day Classic. He is the 2008 Eskimo nominee for the CFL's Outstanding Canadian Award for the second year in a row.

Patrick Kabongo - Offensive Guard

First West Division All-Star selection Kabongo played in all 18 games (18 starts) this season. He made the switch to right guard after playing right tackle last season. Patrick was this year's recipient of the David Boone Award, voted on by his teammates, for his work in the community. He is also the 2008 Eskimo nominee for the CFLPA's Tom Pate Memorial Award which is awarded during Grey Cup week to a player for his commitment to the league, his team and his community.
