"Both Alex and Taylor are well-known in the Boise community, and I appreciate that they want to be part of the Burn," said first-year Burn Head Coach Brent Winter. "Quarterback is the most important position in arena football, and Taylor has the experience and athleticism to excel at this game. Alex's motor is always running, and he'll be a positive influence on younger players we expect to sign for 2009."
Guerrero played the final game of the 2008 season for the Burn, recovering one fumble and returning it 10 yards. He also had three tackles, one for loss, and on offense he caught one pass for 12 yards in a loss to Spokane.
He was one of the defensive stalwarts for the Boise State team from 2002-05, helping BSU to a 45-7 record and two bowl game victories in four years. Following his BSU career, Guerrero signed a free agent contract with the Minnesota Vikings where he played on the practice squad in 2006. He also spent time that year in the Seattle Seahawks' and Kansas City Chiefs' camps. In 2007, Guerrero was assigned to the Rhein Fire of the NFL Europe League. He was signed by the Hamilton Tiger Cats (CFL) last season, but was released following training camp.
Quarterback Taylor Tharp was named Western Athletic Conference second-team quarterback following the 2007 season. In his only season as BSU's starting quarterback, Tharp recorded fifth most total offensive yards in school history (3,131), the third most passing yards in school history (3,090), the second most pass attempts in school history (379), the second most completions in school history (259) and the fifth most touchdown passes in school history (28).
The Colorado native's best game with BSU was against Louisiana Tech, when he completed 21-of 35 passes for a career-best 328 yards and five touchdowns.
The Burn kick off their third season in 2009. A schedule will be released soon. Season tickets are currently on sale by calling the front office at 208.383.0080.
