Samuels Named Ironman of the Week

TAMPA - The Arena Football League named Tampa Bay Storm wide receiver/linebacker Lawrence Samuels Ironman of the Week for his effort on offense and defense in Week 17. He also received Ironman of the week in Weeks 9 and 12.

"Lawrence just keeps going and going," said Head Coach and General Manager Tim Marcum. "He is a legitimate candidate for Ironman of the Year."

Samuels (6-foot-2, 210-pounds, Livingston) recorded a game-high 11 receptions for 99 yards and two touchdowns, while recording an interception and a key defensive stop on fourth down as the Tampa Bay Storm defeated the Los Angeles Avengers, 72-47, on Saturday. Samuels caught touchdowns passes of seven and five yards. On defense, he played a key role in keeping the Avengers off of the scoreboard in the first quarter as he intercepted Sonny Cumbie on the first play of the game and made a key pass breakup on fourth down on the Avengers second possession to force a turnover on downs. The turnover on downs resulted in a Storm touchdown five plays later.

The Tampa Bay Storm look forward to next season as many key players from 2008 will return. Quarteback Brett Dietz, fullback Torrance Marshall and lineman Tim McGill, wide receivers Hank Edwards and Tyrone Timmons among others will be back to take the 2009 AFL season by storm.
