Stamps Set for Season Opener

The Stamps and Lions will collide for the first of three regular-season contests this season. The others will be played on Aug. 22 in Vancouver and Nov. 1 in Calgary. The Stamps were 0-3-1 in four games against the Lions in 2007.

John Hufnagel will make his regular-season debut as the Stamps head coach/general manager. He worked seven seasons for Lions head coach Wally Buono with the Stamps in the 1990s.

The Purolator Tackle Hunger program makes its 2008 launch at the game and fans are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item to any entrance gate. With a donation, fans will be given an opportunity to have their picture taken pre-game with the Grey Cup (east side of stadium).

The Stampeders will honour recently retired Jay McNeil at halftime. McNeil played 14 seasons with the Red and White and was a pillar on and off the field. Following the game, there will be a Celebrate Canada fireworks display presented by the Calgary Herald and Global Calgary.
