Eskimos Trade for O'Mahony

(Edmonton) The Edmonton Eskimos today acquired punter Duncan O'Mahony from the Calgary Stampeders for a conditional draft pick in the 2009 CFL Canadian Draft.

A veteran of six CFL seasons, O'Mahony (pro: O-man-ee) played in eight regular season games for Calgary in 2007, recording 51 punts for 2158 yards (avg: 42.3) with a long of 65 yards and three singles. In the 2007 CFL West Semi-Final at Saskatchewan, O'Mahony punted six times for 221 yards.

Eskimo Head Coach and Director of Football Operations Danny Maciocia says " Duncan is a proven CFL commodity and an excellent directional punter".

The native of Kilkenny, Ireland was a standout at UBC where he was named a first team CIAU All-Canadian in 2000. O'Mahony was selected by the Stampeders in the second round of the 2001 CFL Draft. He played three years with Calgary before he signed with the BC Lions for the 2004 and 2005 seasons. After missing the 2006 season, O'Mahony signed as a free agent with the Stampeders in 2007 where he played in eight games.
