Another year; another success

(Edmonton) For the second year in a row, the Eskimo Women's Dinner was a complete success. A sold out crowd of over 500 women were entertained with video presentations, musical performances, wonderful speakers and a spectacular four "quarter" meal. An incredible $45,000 was raised from proceeds involved with the dinner, which includes the $10,000 raised from the green helmet auction.

This year, it was announced that the women of Eskimo football has created the Edmonton Eskimo Women's Ovarian Cancer Research Endowment Fund. The purpose of the fund is to provide long term sustainable funding for ovarian cancer research. The Edmonton Eskimo Women are committed to a minimum investment of $100,000 over a three year period. These funds will be made available to physician-researchers who practice at the Lois Hole Hospital for Women in the area of gynecological oncology.

"The Fund will help us to continue our fight against ovarian cancer all year long," says Joan Forge, Eskimo Women's Dinner Chair. "This is a monumental step towards finding a cure for this awful disease and with the support we received through the Eskimo Women's Dinner and other initiatives we will be able to reach our three year commitment with no problems."

"The success of the dinner and the announcement of the Endowment Fund are monumental for ovarian cancer research," says Lynn Mandel, Eskimo Women's Dinner Honorary Co-Chair. "The impact the dinner has made on awareness for this silent disease in itself is enormous. With continual success and support like this, we can expect much advancement in ovarian cancer research."

Honorary Co-Chair, Marie Stelmach was pleased with the success of the dinner and with how the women of Eskimo football, sponsors and the community all pulled together. "Thank you to all the women of the community for making this evening such a success. Together we can make a difference."
