World Champion Philadelphia Soul Rooting For Phillies In World Series

Philadelphia, PA (October 22, 2008) - This past July, the Philadelphia Soul brought to Philadelphia something the city has been thirsting for -- a World Championship. On the brink of the Phillies beginning the World Series tonight against the Tampa Bay Rays, the Soul couldn't be more excited to root for another team to bring home a championship to the City of Brotherly Love.

Many Soul players are rooting on their fellow Philadelphia team. "Even though I'm not from this area, after playing for the Soul I feel like a part of the Philadelphia family," DB Rob Keefe says. "I want to see the Phillies win the World Series just to see the faces of the rest of the Phillies fans as they watch another parade go through the city this year."

OL Phil Bogle shares the same sentiment as Keefe. "It's a great accomplishment," he said when asked about his thoughts on the Phillies. "It's another possibility of a championship in Philly. I've been embraced by Philadelphia and I've embraced Philadelphia right back."

But who do they think will end up on top at the end of the World Series? "I think the Phillies are hot right now, although Tampa is playing well. The way that guys like Shane Victorino are playing and the way pitching is with guys like Cole Hamels, it's great. The Phillies will pull it out," Bogle predicts.

Soul Head Coach Bret Munsey has started following the Phillies over the past three years while he's been with the Soul and has enjoyed watching them grow. "Manager Charlie Manuel and the Phillies organization have come a long way getting great character people both on and off the field. It would be another great achievement for the great fans of Philadelphia."

Though there's a debate on whether the Soul really broke the "curse" in Philadelphia, it's evident that winning ways are going to continue on with the City of Brotherly Love and the Soul are rooting for the Phillies the whole way.

The Soul celebrated their fifth anniversary this season with a 59-56 win over the San Jose SaberCats in Virgin Mobile ArenaBowl XXII. The Soul drew a total of 131,817 fans this season, their largest number since their inaugural season of 2004. The Soul sold out four games in the 2008 season and averaged 16,477 fans per game.
