Lions Ink Conrad for 2009 Season

(Columbus, GA)- The Columbus Lions are proud to announce the signing of Quarterback Joey Conrad for the 2009 season. The 6'4, 245 pound signal caller from Glenville State was a first team All-AIFA selection following the 2008 season where he threw 41 touchdowns. Conrad was 181 of 319 for 2,204 yards while only relinquishing 6 interceptions. "We're extremely excited to have Joey back for next season," said Head Coach Jason Gibson, "he's a proven winner who makes good decisions and doesn't turn the ball over." Since signing in Columbus, Conrad has posted a 21-7 record over 3 seasons and has led his teams to 3 consecutive playoff appearances.

Conrad underwent off-season knee surgery to repair damaged cartilage in his right knee. "I feel good. The surgery went well and my rehabilitation is ahead of schedule," said Conrad. Coach Gibson is also excited about the potential of having Conrad at 100 percent, "Joey has been playing on a knee that has literally been bone on bone for the last two years. Now he will be able to plant and push of his knee much better than he was able to in the past which should translate into some big numbers in 09."
