Anthony Calvillo And Ben Cahoon Named Players Of The Month

Montreal, Oct. 2, 2008 - Montreal Alouettes quarterback Anthony Calvillo and slotback Ben Cahoon have been named, respectively, the CFL's Offensive and Canadian Players of the Month for September.

Calvillo - Offensive Player of the Month

In four games in September, Calvillo completed 116 of his 166 passes for a 70 per cent completion rate, passed for over 300 yards three times and totalled 1,379 yards. His 10 touchdown passes in September helped lead the Alouettes to three wins in four games.

Calvillo leads the CFL this season with 344 completions, 507 attempts, and 31 touchdown passes against just nine interceptions. He is second with a 67.9 completion percentage, behind Edmonton's Ricky Ray who is at 68,9. Calvillo is also second for passing yards with 4,258, which is just four yards behind Ray.

On pace to register 5,000 yards for the fifth time in his career, Calvillo also has a shot at breaching the 6,000 yards plateau for the second time.

Named the Offensive Player of the Week following the Alouettes' 40-4 win over the Eskimos on Sept. 21, Calvillo is a four-time winner of the East Division's Most Outstanding Player award, and was named the CFL's top player in 2003.

Cahoon - Canadian Player of the Month

Cahoon caught 34 passes for 400 yards and one touchdown in September, and is currently tied with Calgary's Ken-Yon Rambo for the league lead with 70 receptions despite missing a game. Cahoon is also second amongst Canadian receivers with 825 yards.

At his current pace, Cahoon has a chance to register his second career 100-reception season and an eighth year of over 1,000 receiving yards. Should he break that mark, he'll be tied with Saskatchewan legends Ray Elgaard and Don Narcisse for fifth on the CFL's all-time 1,000-receiving-yards-seasons list. Cahoon is currently on a streak of 104 consecutive games with at least one reception.

Cahoon is a two-time winner of the East Division and CFL Most Outstanding Canadian Award.

The Alouettes will play the Hamilton Tiger-Cats this Saturday at 4 p.m. at Ivor Wynne Stadium (RDS, TSN, CKAC SPORTS, CJAD, 98,5 FM).
