L.A. Avengers make changes on coaching staff

LOS ANGELES -- Offensive line and fullback coach Bill Dobson has been relieved of his duties with the Los Angeles Avengers effective immediately, head coach Ed Hodgkiss announced today.

Assistant head coach and offensive coordinator Brent Winter will assume what were Dobson's responsibilities for the remainder of the 2008 Arena Football League season.

"We would like to thank Bill Dobson for all his years of hard work," Hodgkiss said. "He is a good coach and we are very grateful for his contribution to our franchise. However, at this time, we felt very strongly that we needed to shift gears and go in a new direction."

Dobson was in his sixth year with the Avengers. During his first four seasons in Los Angeles (prior to the AFL's change to "free substitution"), he coached both the offensive and defensive linemen.

The Avengers (4-8) are currently on their bye week. They will return to action on Saturday, May 31, when they host the defending ArenaBowl champion San Jose SaberCats (7-5) at STAPLES Center. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at the STAPLES Center box office, all Ticketmaster outlets, online at laavengers.com or by calling 1-888-AVENGERS.
