The package was developed by AIFA co-founders John Morris and Micheal Mink, based on feedback from various team owners. The AIFA will provide a subsidy pool of $110,000 to aid playoff participants with travel and other related expenses. The incentive package is believed to be the first of its kind in minor league indoor football.
"Our owners should never dread making the playoffs," said AIFA co-founder John Morris. "But in recent years we have found that team budgets have been strained at playoff time. This proposal is intended to help free our teams from those worries. We want teams competing in our playoffs to be concentrating on football.
"This $110,000 package, to be honest with you, I'm extremely excited about it," Morris told This Week in the AIFA. "I've not seen the relationship (between the AIFA and its member teams) as strong as it was at the close of these meetings."
"Our league is designed to help our ownership keep travel expenses in line," said AIFA co-founder Michael Mink. "But when the playoffs take our teams to different regions, these costs and other related costs do increase. This proposal is intended to address that issue."
"That is the great thing about Michael and John," said Reading Express Ted Lavender for This Week in the AIFA. "They've taken a huge portion of the dues and applied that toward a financial playoff package.
"It's huge. We're all very excited about it. The meetings went very well. We as team owners had a great synergy going on amongst all of us and really plowed forward to build a solid foundation for our 2009 season. I think that's what's important, and that's what's going to make the difference from the other leagues. All of these steps have made a great recipe for success for the 2009 AIFA."
