RiverCity Rage Appoints New Head Coach

ST. CHARLES, MISSOURI- The RiverCity Rage, a member of the Indoor Football League (IFL), announced that Rik Richards has been named the new Head Coach of their franchise. Richards was formally announced to members of the St. Louis media on Tuesday, September 9th at 3pm at the St. Charles Family Arena.

"He is a winning coach, period," said Rage President Art Clarkson. "Every place he has been, he's won. Sioux Falls (S.D.) has won the league title four consecutive years - that will end this year. My feeling is that with Coach Richards we will dominate the league."

Richards has a football coaching career that spans the better part of the last decade, including extensive experience specializing in the indoor variation of the game. He has worked with five arena/indoor football teams, including four stints as a Head Coach.

Richards comes to the Rage after coaching the past two years for the Rock River Raptors, an indoor football team based in Rockford, Ill. As the Head Coach and Director of Football Operations, Richards guided the Raptors to the United Football League (UIF) Central Division Championship in 2006 and the Eastern Conference crown in '07. In two seasons, the Raptors led the UIF in pass defense and ranked second in overall defense and third against rush where he amassed a 22-11 record as the Head Coach.

A native of Seattle, Wash., Richards' coaching career began at the University of Mary in Bismarck, N.D. He spent two years at the NAIA-member institution coaching the tight ends and assisting with recruiting. In addition to his coaching prowess, Richards has also worked as the Associate Vice President of Collegiate Scouting for the Florida-based Scouting Bureau/Draft Data Association. His duties included evaluating and researching current college talent through camps, combines, game film and interviews.

"Rik Richards is a true professional who has a long lasting tradition of winning football teams under his tutelage and we are exciting to have him aboard," said Rage Owner Jeff Sprowls.
