Goss And Mccarty Earns Weekly Honors

(Edmonton) Veteran defensive back Jason Goss has been named CFL Defensive Player of the Week and non-import running back Calvin McCarty named CFL Canadian Player of the Week for their key roles in Edmonton's 38-33 defeat over Hamilton last Saturday at Commonwealth Stadium.

Goss broke the Eskimo club record for yards on interception returns on Saturday night as the Eskimos defeated the Tiger-Cats at Commonwealth Stadium. He also became second in CFL history for most interception return yards in a game, sitting behind Barry Ardern who had 172 yards with Ottawa in 1969. Goss had 144 yards on three interceptions and two touchdowns.

A minute into the game, Goss intercepted a Casey Printers' pass and returned it 50 yards to the end zone to get the Eskimos on the board early. Midway through the 3rd quarter, Goss picked off another Printers' pass and returned it 94 yards for a touchdown. His third pick came just a minute later.

Goss also tied Eskimo records for interception touchdowns in a game (2) and interceptions in a game (3).

McCarty stepped up when starting running back AJ Harris suffered a knee injury in the first quarter. McCarty rushed nine times for a total of 72 yards and one touchdown and had eight receptions for 88 yards. He also helped out on special teams recording one tackle. McCarty is sitting with 30 carries on the year for a total of 227 yards.

The Eskimos head to Montreal to face the East division leaders, the Alouettes on Sunday, September 21. Kickoff at 1pm (ET). Buy Eskimo tickets online at ticketmaster.ca or call 451-8000. For more information on the Edmonton Eskimo Football Club please visit our website at www.esks.com.
