"Sherdrick is the ultimate professional and was a big part of our success in 2008," said Rush head coach Mike Hohensee. "In addition to his play on the field, his aid in the development of Russ Michna was critical. Now with the free-agent signing period on the horizon, we felt we owed it to Sed to allow him to pursue opportunities as a starting quarterback elsewhere in the league."
Signed as a free agent last October, Bonner, 39, started five games for the Rush before suffering a knee injury April 6 at Orlando. He was replaced as the starter by Michna, who remained the team's starting QB the remainder of the year. Overall, Bonner appeared in seven games for the Rush, completing 100 of 167 passes for 1,316 yards and 26 touchdowns.
The 15-year veteran ranks third in AFL history in completions (3,361), attempts (5,435), passing yards (42,295) and passing touchdowns (855).
