Yard Dawgz Announce 2009 Open Tryout

OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz are conducting an open tryout for the upcoming 2009 season. The tryout will be held on Monday, October 6, at Indoor Soccer Arena located at 100 N. McCormick, Oklahoma City, OK. The tryout is open for all positions with registration at 7:30 a.m. and the tryout at 9 a.m.

Everyone who feels they have what it takes to be a professional athlete is encouraged to participate. The tryout fee is only $65 and includes a voucher for the 2009 home opener. Detailed information and pre-registration forms can be found at www.okcyarddawgz.com or by calling 405-228-3294.

The Yard Dawgz have signed players from open tryouts in the past. The Yard Dawgz were assigned seven players from the 2008 open tryout including kicker Ben Scott and WR/DB Jared Smith. The most notable tryout signing is former University of Oklahoma athlete, Howard Duncan, who was assigned to the Yard Dawgz in 2005. Duncan is now on the active roster for the Columbus Destroyers of the Arena Football League and started all 16 regular season games for the Destroyers in 2008 and 2007.

Coach McEwen is committed to helping players advance to the next level and has seen numerous players succeed in the AFL and NFL. Following the 2008 season, Yard Dawgz OL Kelly Butler was invited to training camp for the NFL's Arizona Cardinals.

"This is our first step in building our 2009 championship team," said Head Coach Sparky McEwen. "We are excited about the quality of talent that we will be able to evaluate from."

The Yard Dawgz compete within the arenafootball2 league with regular season games being played April through July in downtown Oklahoma City.
