CFL Names Players of the Month

Toronto, ON - (September 04, 2008) - Avon Cobourne, Maurice Lloyd, Damon Duval and Kamau Peterson were named the CFL's top players for the month of August, the Canadian Football League announced today.

Players of the Month are selected for on-field excellence by members of the Canadian football broadcasters.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE MONTH

RB - Avon Cobourne - Montreal Alouettes

Montreal Alouettes (6-3)

Highlights / Key Stats:

Avon Cobourne ran for more than 100 yards in each of his three games in August, averaging 114 yards on the ground and adding two touchdowns. Cobourne also displayed his versatility averaging 51 receiving yards per game and scoring a touchdown with his Alouettes going 3-0 on the month.

Avon Cobourne is off to a great start for the season with 815 rushing yards and 487 receiving yards. He leads the league in rushing yards and yards from scrimmage and is third with seven total touchdowns.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE MONTH

LB - Maurice Lloyd - Saskatchewan Roughriders

Saskatchewan Roughriders (7-2)

Highlights / Key Stats:

Maurice Lloyd had 19 tackles, two sacks and a forced fumble in the month of August as he continues to be a force in the middle of the Roughriders team that went 1-2 for the month and is 7-2 on the year. Lloyd is one of the key leaders on a Riders defence that ranks first in the league in yards allowed per game and points allowed per game.

Maurice Lloyd has 34 tackles, two sacks, a forced fumble and five special teams tackles on the season.

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE MONTH

K/P - Damon Duval - Montreal Alouettes

Montreal Alouettes (6-3)

Highlights / Key Stats:

Damon Duval continued his excellent kicking season in August going 11 for 13 on field goals with a long of 52, and went 9 for 9 on converts. His 47 points for the month led all players and the Alouettes went 3-0 in August.

Damon Duval has made 27 of 30 field goals this season, a CFL best 90% rate. He has also made 28 of 29 converts and leads the league with 118 points. Duval is second in the league averaging 47.1 yards per punt.

KR/PR - Dominique Dorsey - Toronto Argonauts

CANADIAN PLAYER OF THE MONTH

WR - Kamau Peterson - Edmonton Eskimos

Edmonton Eskimos (6-3)

Highlights / Key Stats:

Kamau Peterson had 19 catches for 240 yards and four touchdowns in three games in August. He scored a touchdown in all three games as the Eskimos went 2-1 in August. Peterson had his best outing in the Labour Day classic hauling in eight catches for 113 yards and one touchdown.

Kamau Peterson is having his best season in the CFL with 44 catches for 636 yards and four touchdowns. He has become one of Ricky Ray's primary targets and leads the team in receptions and yards.
